Have you ever wondered if you could chat with your players playing on your Minecraft server from anywhere?! Whether you are away or simply are looking for a better way to connect, DiscordSRV has you covered! With a quick and easy setup, you can moderate your chat, communicate with your players, and even manage your server all from Discord. It is an essential plugin for community interaction and management.
In this guide, we will walk you through a simple process on how to install DiscordSRV on your Minecraft server and configure it in order to link your server chat with your Discord server. Let's get started!
DiscordSRV is a plugin that syncs your in-game chat to a Discord channel, enabling players to chat over two separate platforms even out of the game. It can even be used for chat moderation, as it is not humanly possible to stay in-game 24/7, so moderators can always supervise and moderate in-game chat through Discord.
It also allows you to broadcast multiple in-game events such as achievements, deaths, kills and also enables proximity chat via Discord voice channels, where people can join a Discord voice channel and can talk in-game. With its highly customizable settings, it is perfect for anyone looking to enhance their server’s communication and engagement.
In order to get started, you will have to start by creating a Discord bot, which will serve as a messenger, displaying all in-game messages on Discord. The process to create a bot is relatively easy and doesn't require much experience.
1. Open your web browser and navigate to the Discord Developer Portal, and click the ‘New Application’ button in the top right corner of the webpage to create a new Discord bot.
2. After creating the bot and giving it a name, head to the 'BOT' section present on the sidebar. Scroll down to the ‘Privileged Gateway Intents’ section and enable both ‘Server Members Intent’ and ‘Message Content Intent’, then save the changes.
3. In the BOT section, locate the token area and click Reset Token. On resetting, copy and note down the generated token. Likewise, the bot token should be kept highly confidential, as it can be dangerous if it gets into the wrong hands.
4. Now, go to the General Information section and copy the Application ID of your bot. After that, navigate to any Discord Bot-Auth page generator (we recommend using Scarsz at https://scarsz.me/authorize) and paste your Application ID. It will redirect you to a page where you can add your newly created bot to your Discord server.
5. Select the server you’d like to add the bot to, then click Authorize.
To install DiscordSRV on your Minecraft server, we recommend you install it from its Modrinth marketplace, which allows you to install the correct version of the plugin according to your server type.
1. Log in to your MCServerHost dashboard, locate the server where you want to install the plugin, and stop the server.
2. Navigate to the File Manager, open the 'plugins' folder, and upload the .jar file of the plugin in it.
3. Restart your server to allow the plugin to generate their configuration files.
After creating a Discord bot and installing DiscordSRV on your server, now you can start configuring it in order to connect your Minecraft server's chat to your Discord server.
1. Search for the ‘plugins’ folder in the File Manager. It is where you will find all the plugins that have been installed on your server. In the ‘plugins’ folder, look for a folder titled DiscordSRV’, which contains all the files related to the DiscordSRV plugin.
2. On finding the folder, go to the ‘config.yml’ file inside the DiscordSRV folder and edit the following fields in it.
BotToken: "Token of your newly created bot"
Channels: {"global": "Your discord channel ID in which you want to receive chat"}
3. Save the changes, and restart your server in order to let the changes take place.
Setting up DiscordSRV makes it easy to keep your Minecraft and Discord community connected. Just make sure to check your settings to ensure everything is configured properly and keep your bot token confidential. Once it's all set up, you will have an interactive experience where players can chat, moderate, and even manage the server, all from Discord.
