Playing Minecraft with your friends is a great way to spend your time, and while communicating through text chat is a decent way to connect with each other, it can never beat the convenience and fun of voice chat. Allowing each player to talk with each other while playing. To make this possible, server owners can install a plugin/mod on their server known as Simple Voice Chat, which lets nearby players talk with each other in-game using proximity chat.
The plugin/mod is also available for multiple server versions (Example - PaperMC, Spigot, Fabric, and many others) and doesn't require much configuration, making it very easy to install on any server without the need for any experience in server configuration.
To start installing Simple Voice Chat on your server, we recommend you install the plugin/mod from its Modrinth marketplace that allows you to install the version of the plugin according to your server type and version.
1. Log in to your MCServerHost dashboard and stop your server to avoid any errors while the installation of the plugin/mod.
2. Navigate to the file manager and install the .jar file of the plugin in your 'plugins' or 'mods' folder.
3. On installation, start your server to let the plugin/mod create its configuration folder on the server.
To allow Simple Voice Chat to work on your server, you have to allocate it a separate port due to the sole reason that it operates independently from Minecraft's built-in networking system. To allocate an additional port to your server, you can follow the steps below -
1. Navigate to the Dashboard and find the 'Network Section'. This is usually located at the right end of the dashboard, where it shows the IP and port of your server.
2. Click the '+' (plus) button next to the 'Extra Ports' heading. This will request and allocate an additional port for your server.
3. After the port has been allocated, note down the newly allocated port number before proceeding to the next step.
On installing the plugin/mod into your server and allocating an additional port, you can start configuring Simple Voice Chat on your server by editing its properties on its configuration files. To do that, follow the steps given below -
1. Navigate to your server's file manager and go to your 'plugins' or 'mods' folder. Inside that, locate the configuration folder of the plugin/mod titled ‘voicechat’.
2. Inside the configuration folder, locate the file titled 'voicechat-server.properties' and edit the following fields in it -
port=10699 (the newly allocated port of your server)
3. Save the changes, and restart your server in order to let the changes take place.
After following all the steps highlighted in this guide, you will be able to install Simple Voice Chat into your Minecraft server without any type of error. Just make sure that you are using the correct version of the plugin/mod for your server and performing every step correctly.
