A flat world in Minecraft is perfect for creative builds, redstone testing, and custom server setups. Unlike standard worlds, it has no natural terrain, making construction easier. In this guide, we’ll show you how to create a flat world for your Minecraft server, whether you’re using Java or Bedrock Edition.

Running a Minecraft server is an ideal way to offer a unique experience to your player base. Overworld, also known as the infinite world, is the most typical and famous terrain choice for survival, anarchy, and lifesteal servers. On the other hand, flat terrain is another world type that has become a favourite of builders showcasing their creations, creative endeavours, giant building projects, and testing game mechanics. Flat World makes it just perfect for all of them.

We will guide you through the simple process of generating and creating a flat world for your Minecraft server. Additionally, before proceeding further, it is advised to create a backup of your Minecraft server, as converting your server world into a flat world will erase your previous world entirely.

What is a flat world?!

A flat world is a special type of terrain generated for rendering, testing, and unleashing players' creativity. Just like the normal world generation, which includes mountains, caves, and natural structures, a flat world only consists of grass and dirt layers, with no diversity.

Creating a flat world!

To create a flat world, you need to edit a few settings in the ‘server.properties’ file and delete your original overworld folder. The steps below will guide you through the process —

1. Log in to the MCServerHost dashboard and stop your server for safe configuration and data changes.

2. Navigate to the File Manager and locate the ‘server.properties’ file. Open the file and find the ‘level-type’ configuration. Change ‘level-type’ value to FLAT.

3. Save the changes and delete the existing 'world' folder so that the server generates a new world with the flat world configuration.

4. Now that you have followed all the necessary steps, restart your server, and the flat world will automatically generate and load.

Conclusion

After following and finishing the entire process in this article, you'll be able to create a flat world for your server. Just make sure to back up your original world in case you want to revert to the original.
